Here are the top stories today in Roseville:

  1. The Roseville City Council is considering an ordinance that would reduce speeds by 5 m.p.h. on five separate roads in Roseville. The council heard the first reading of the ordinance this past week. If the city council passes the second reading, the new limits would go into effect. "The proposed decreases are along Bob Doyle Drive, North Cirby Way, Old Auburn Road, Rocky Ridge Drive and Taylor Road." (ABC10.com KXTV)
  2. Placer County filed suit against PG&E for damages that resulted from the Mosquito Fire last September. The county joins four other public entities in this lawsuit. “Placer County’s lawsuit seeks to recover taxpayer resources lost in the fire,” said Placer County Counsel Karin Schwab. “The lawsuit seeks to hold PG&E accountable and to help our community rebuild after this devastating fire.” (placer.ca.us)
  3. As part of a settlement agreement resulting from a class action suit on behalf of several unhoused individuals, Placer County is establishing a "low-barrier" shelter in Auburn. Located at 11517 F Avenue in the Placer County Government Center, the shelter will have room in tents with cots for approximately 50 unhoused individuals. The goal of the shelter is to provide a temporary housing solution, as longer-term housing solutions are pursued for the occupants. (placer.ca.us)
  4. On April 20, 2021, a Roseville Police officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 80. During the pursuit, the occupant of the vehicle fired two shots at the pursuing officer. On Friday, a Placer County jury found Rafael Vital "guilty of attempted murder on a police officer, evading a police officer, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and other related charges regarding an attempted murder of a local police officer." (Roseville Police Department via Facebook)
  5. "The North Industrial Plan Area Parcel 56 is an industrial project located in the Blue Oaks Commerce Center." On Wednesday, the Roseville City Council approved a permit modification for the parcel. The revised plan has four industrial buildings that will total 310,000 square feet, “an increase of 50,000 square feet from the original approval,” Roseville associate planner Escarlet Mar said.
