Here are the top stories in Roseville today:
- Repairs for the sinkhole on Midas Avenue in Rocklin were approved to be funded by the City Council on Tuesday. The sinkhole opened up during the recent storms and has caused the road to be closed since January 16. The council also declared this repair an emergency situation, so it will be able to secure funding more quickly. According to Rocklin City Council member Bill Halldin, the City of Rocklin was asked “to do whatever possible to expedite the process, including payments to accelerate the creation of this block culvert.”(KTXL FOX 40 Sacramento)
- The Creekview Ranch in Roseville could add almost 500 homes to our city, in a new gated community. The community is also proposed to have "a 14.8-acre park, 56.5 acres of open space, approximately 4 miles of public trails, landscaping and utility installation." If you're interested in providing input for this plan, you may do so in person or via Zoom at the environmental scoping meeting on January 26. (Roseville Today)
- Wondering how Rocklin is spending its ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds? Rocklin was allocated over $7 million to contribute to recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Rocklin then allocated nearly $3 million of that for "community support," another $2.7 million for "revenue loss" recovery and the final $1.4 million for "internal support." The city is tracking how the spending is going to those budgets, and you can see the details at this link: (rocklin.ca.us)
- The 4th Annual Folsom Public Library LEGO® Building Contest returns to the Folsom Library in February. If you've got a creative LEGO® fan in your family, they are invited to submit their best original work of art made with the iconic blocks. "Participants are asked to deliver completed projects to the Folsom Public Library beginning Tuesday February 21 through Saturday February 25 by 11 a.m. to be entered in the contest. Judging will take place on Saturday, February 25, from 1-2 p.m." (folsom.ca.us)

- Are you a non-native English speaker looking to practice the English language? Try Roseville Public Library's Conversation Club! It's "a free, drop-in program for adult English language learners looking to practice conversational English through casual group discussion." (Roseville Public Library via Facebook)
- If you, or anyone you know, is interested in becoming a firefighter/paramedic or just understanding more about what they do, the Roseville Firefighters will be at Mahaney Park Fitness Center this Saturday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m to noon, discussing "opportunities our community can bring to you including a regional rescue and regional hazardous materials program. We have opportunities for SWAT Medics as well as numerous committees and cadres ranging from a fitness cadre to truck and training committees." Or, just go and thank them for the wonderful job they do serving our community! (Roseville Firefighters Local 1592 via Facebook)
