Here are the top stories in Roseville today:
- If you're a Roseville Electric customer, you'll start seeing an 8% surcharge on your bill starting today. "This 8% energy surcharge is in addition to an already-approved 3% increase that started in January, so customers will be seeing an 11% increase." As approved, this increase will be temporary, extending to December 2024. See Roseville Electric's surcharge fact sheet for answers to frequently asked questions. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- A bicyclist was killed early Tuesday morning in an accident that closed down the eastbound Taylor Boulevard exit from I-80. The driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with authorities. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident, according to police. (KCRA Sacramento)
- Intel plans to lay off about 343 workers at its Folsom site. This is about twice as many workers as the company recently said would be impacted by layoffs at the site. “These are difficult decisions, and we are committed to treating impacted employees with dignity and respect,” Intel said in a statement to KCRA 3. The first separations are scheduled to begin March 15. (SFGATE)
- Ready for still more laws that went into effect in California in January? (I have no idea how the lawmakers had time to make this many new laws last year!) Here's Roseville Today's 24th entry discussing the new laws. Today "laws on affordable housing, criminal records, special education, prescription drugs, CalWORKS and more" are covered.
- Last week Roseville firefighters built a bunch of stuff they're now going to destroy! It was all in the name of training. Trainees will be able to use multiple tools to weaken and break the concrete forms that they built last week to help them learn how to perform rescues in buildings that collapsed.
