- Nineteen-year-old Riley J. Schubert was arrested for drunk driving and resisting arrest on Thursday. Roseville police witnessed Schubert nearly collide with another vehicle while making a turn onto Riverside Avenue. Police say Schubert showed signs of intoxication and they allegedly found an open container of alcohol in his vehicle. He was booked into the South Placer County Jail. (CBS Sacramento)
- A controversy is brewing in the Western Placer Unified School District over contents of a book that students were assigned to read. Some parents took to the microphone at the district meeting on Tuesday to voice their displeasure, with one parent saying it "spews nothing but hate, racism and a strong message to defund the police.” Students disagreed, saying the book discusses "real issues that affect people in the real world.” No resolution was found at the district meeting, with "board member Marjorie Proffitt request[ing] an emergency special meeting about the content of the book." (Gold Country Media)
- We've got some impressive thespians next door in Folsom. Students from Folsom High took home 14 awards from the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival at Folsom Lake College! "The annual festival brings together 62 schools from throughout Northern and Central California to compete in a variety of acting and technical theatre categories." (Folsom Times)
- Not to be outdone by Folsom, South Placer has some impressive high school basketball alumnae now making waves at the collegiate level. From Humboldt to Pomona, South Placer school alums are making their mark. “The best part about playing at Humboldt is the friendships I have created,” said Del Oro High 2020 alumna Madison Parry. “Playing sports has helped me create friendships that will last a lifetime." That's a great attitude for a great player! (Gold Country Media)
