- Union Pacific is celebrating its 160th anniversary this year with a West Coast Steam Tour featuring the world’s only functioning Big Boy locomotive, No. 1014. - Mid-term elections are just a couple of months away, putting a spotlight the shifting demographics in Placer County. A surge of newcomers attracted by the region’s economic opportunity and family friendly communities narrowed the Republican majority traditionally held in the P.C. But one thing has remained constant in all upheaval, according to Placer County Clerk-Recorder-Registrar of Voters Ryan Ronco – voter turnout is the highest in the state for counties with over 150,000 registered voters. - The American River Confluence is a favorite place for folks to explore and recreate in our region, but it’s no secret to anyone who’s been there within the past few years that driving in the area and finding parking is a hot mess. The Placer County Transportation Agency, the City of Auburn, Placer and El Dorado Counties, Caltrans and the State Parks Department have teamed up to find ways to improve access and safety in the seven-mile corridor of state route 49 between Lincoln Way in Auburn and Georgetown Road in Georgetown. The multi-agency collaborative effort is seeking input from the public. (Gold Country Media)
- Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) will pay $55 million, over five years, to six Northern California counties impacted by the 2019 Kincade Fire and the 2021 Dixie fire according to a settlement announced on Monday. The deal will free PG&E from any criminal prosecution related to the wildfires and calls for the utility giant to work with Butte, Lassen, Plumas, Shasta, Sonoma and Tehama counties to improve wildfire safety and response for the communities affected by the fires. - Like an adult child living in your basement, inflation is here to stay for a while. Spurred by bottlenecked supply chain issues, increased consumer demand, volatility in global energy markets and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, rising prices have American households rethinking their monthly budgeting. Find out what you need to know about this historic inflationary period and how you should adjust accordingly. (Patch Media)
