Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- Bruce Houdesheldt was sworn in as mayor and Krista Bernasconi was sworn in as vice mayor at the Roseville City Council meeting on December 21. Houdesheldt served as vice mayor for the past two years. "Houdesheldt has lived in the South Placer region since 1991. He is the Director of Water Quality at the Northern California Water Association (NCWA), where he was worked for the past 15 years." (Press Release Desk)
- At 12 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2023, you may hear a loud siren. It is not an air raid. Union Pacific Railroad will be testing its emergency notification siren. The City of Roseville has a few tips to prepare for an emergency. (Press Release Desk)
- You might hear some unfamiliar names for the parks in our area soon. That's because the Roseville City Council named three parks and renamed one at its meeting on December 21. My favorite new name is for a dog park off Antelope Creek Drive that was named Apollo Dog Park after Roseville Police’s former K-9 Apollo. That one will be easy to remember. (Gold Country Media)
- Here's installment 10 of the new California laws going into effect in January that might affect us in Roseville, from the publishers of Roseville Today. Today's laws address "disparities in developmental services, correctional facilities, organic waste, CSU, hotel shelter programs, small biz, jury duty and more."
- A full-production winery operation, including a tasting room, is proposed for Penryn in Placer County, to be called the Project 8 Winery. “There’ll be some underground caves, an accessory restaurant and then associated facilities to support that," said Jennifer Byous with Placer County Planning Services. The Planning Commission held a public hearing on December 15 to address the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the project. (Roseville Press Tribune)

Seventy-five years ago, this is what you would have seen in the newspaper: "Loomis Constable Pat O'Brien is on a campaign to 'clean up' our town of vagrants and hobos. Several arrests were made of 'moochers' and drunken vagrants from the hobo jungle who have been annoying local residents."
