Here are the top stories today in Roseville:

  1. Folks in Folsom love Julian’s Patisserie and Cafe! Now, you won't have to drive to Folsom to see what all the buzz is about. Owners of Julian's opened a sister restaurant right here in Roseville. Pastry Nouveau opened Wednesday in the Eureka Ridge Plaza. The pastries will come directly from Julian's and, take it from me, they are so good! (Sacramento Bee via MSN)
  2. Violins of Hope is coming to Johnson Hall in Roseville on February 28. The Chabad House of Placer County is sponsoring the event. Violins of Hope are instruments that were played by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust. The violins have been lovingly restored and are now on tour. "One of the violins will be played by Folsom Lake Symphony concertmaster Anita Felix, whose grandfather was a renowned conductor who himself fled Nazi Germany. Three other violins will be on display." (Roseville Today)
  3. Lots of Rosevillians are looking into home repair after the storms that ripped through here in January. The City of Roseville wants you to beware of scammers promising to fix your home on the cheap! Check out the types of scams you may see and how to protect yourself, in this article from the City of Roseville.
  4. It was supposed to be a dream trip to Hawaii, but it almost turned into a nightmare for one woman from Auburn. Karen Allen suffered a massive heart attack, often known as the "widow maker," at 30,000 feet on her way to Maui in January. As luck (or divine intervention) would have it, on the flight with her also happened to be an anesthesiologist, a vascular surgeon and an emergency room nurse. Against all odds, Allen survived the flight and was ready to greet her rescuers on Wednesday. (KCRA3)
  5. The Scott Road Extension in Folsom is finally open. The piece of roadway is part of the Capital Southeast Connector Project. "This project connects Scott Road to the Prairie City Road and White Rock Road intersection with a new roundabout at the Prairie City State Vehicular Recreation Area." (ABC10.com KXTV)

From my notebook:

  • "Roseville Police Department’s Social Services Unit was ready for fun this morning at Maidu Library! Sergeant Buelow read 'Is Everyone Ready for Fun?' by Jan Thomas, and also got to jump, wiggle, and dance with the crowd. Thanks to the amazing Roseville Public Library staff who host Storytime every week!" (City of Roseville, California Police Department via Facebook)
  • The Roseville Public Library Spring Reading Challenge sounds right up my alley! "For this year's challenge, kids ages 4-12 can participate in the In-N-Out Burger Cover to Cover Club! Completed reading logs can receive up to 3 gift cards for a free hamburger!" (Roseville Public Library via Facebook)
  • The latest "What's Happening Roseville PRL" video is out! "We’re hiring for summer jobs, opened two new parks and Friday Flicks is moving indoors with a pre-party you won’t want to miss." Check it out!
