Support for Windows XP will end on April 8, 2014. According to Microsoft “There will be no more security updates or technical support for the Windows XP operating system.” The XP operating system was released about 12.5 years ago and is still installed on about 25% of the Windows computers in use today.
While antivirus definitions will continue to be updated, Microsoft will not be providing security patches to fix problems. If your computer is connected to the internet, your system and data will be at risk and the problem will get worse over time.

1) Upgrade your current PC, or

The correct answer varies by individual. Some computers can be successfully upgraded to Windows 8 (or 7), though often upgrading and old computer does not make sense (depending primarily on the processor and available memory).
Some people may be able to completely eliminate the use of a traditional desktop or laptop and switch to a tablet (or Chromebook). Chromebooks are a family of small computers which are designed to be used on the internet. While Chromebooks will not run PC based applications like Excel and Word, you can accomplish similar results with using free internet base tools (Google Docs).
If you use Windows XP, you should start thinking about how you use your computer and consider your options. If it is mostly for consuming content on the web and light email usage, a tablet (iPad or Nexus 7) or Chromebook might meet your needs.
