🌱Weekend Mess On Highway 80 + Indo-Chinese Eatery In Folsom
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Roseville.

Hi all! I'm back in your inbox this morning to walk you through all the most important things happening locally.
First, a correction. The Carnegie Museum will be closed January 23 through February 13, not January 28 as I inadvertently told you in the January 12 edition of my newsletter.
- Your drinking water may smell or taste a little different, but it's still safe to drink.
- The Red Hot Chili Pepper restaurant in Folsom is finally open!
- Crews worked for 11 hours to clear mud and debris on Highway 49 in Auburn.
But first, today's weather:

Here are the top stories in Roseville today:
- These storms have taken over our lives and impacted just about everything, including the taste and smell of our drinking water. Organic debris that's being swept into the Folsom Reservoir is impacting the quality of the water. In order to offset that, crews need to use more chemicals, which may affect the smell and taste of the water. Roseville's Environmental Utilities spokesperson, Maurice Chaney, assures us the water is safe to drink, though. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- Placer County Supervisors were given an overview of the Placer County portion of the Sacramento Region Community Economic Resilience Fund. The fund is in place to advance regional recovery from the pandemic. Each region will receive $5 million "during the planning phase" to create an inclusive recovery plan for economic growth. (Gold Country Media)
- I hope you didn't decide to head up to the mountains this weekend. The drive up Highway 80 was a mess! Two to three feet of snow was expected over the weekend. “Dangerous to impossible Sierra travel is expected as a line of strong thunderstorms moves through over the next few hours,” the weather service tweeted at 11:20 a.m. Saturday. Just stay home and look at the pretty pictures on the news. (Sacramento Bee via MSN)
- Indo-Chinese restaurant, Red Hot Chili Pepper, is finally open in Folsom! I first reported on this restaurant opening back in August. People say it's worth the wait, though. After all, it's the most popular Indo-Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area. Fair warning: you do have to sign a waiver if you want to try The Devil's Chicken. "This entrée has pepper, tomato and is covered in a very spicy ghost pepper sauce." I'll leave that one to you. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- Eleven hours after rocks slid onto the roadway on Highway 49 at the Lincoln Way intersection in Auburn, the road was finally open again. It was an active mudslide as crews tried to clean up the mess. "A boulder about one foot in circumference fell onto the street just a few minutes before Auburn Journal staff arrived at the scene, and pebbles continued to fall." I'm glad I wasn't the one fighting that battle against Mother Nature! (Gold Country Media)
Today in Roseville:
- Head over to Folsom's Artisan Greenhouse for an Airplant Design class. (9:00 AM)
- "Learn how to effectively protect yourself and your family using violence prevention techniques from Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiujitsu" at this free Women's Self Defense & Violence Prevention Seminar. (9:00 AM)
- Roseville Theater Arts Academy presents Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (2:00 PM)
From my notebook:
- "Each year, 5 Junior boys are selected by staff, based on their academics, character, and service to school/community, for a state-wide program called Boys State. These 5 students will go through an application and interview process and one student will be selected as the Woodcreek Delegate in February." Congratulations to these five exceptional Woodcreek students! (Woodcreek High School via Facebook)
- "The City of Roseville has opened a call to artists for a new art installation at Veterans Memorial Park North. Information about the proposal requirements, project scope and timeline is available here: https://bit.ly/3iEGsUj" (Roseville Public Library via Facebook)
Alrighty, you're all good for today. I'll be back in your inbox tomorrow with your next update!
