First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 83 Low: 57.

Here are the top stories today in Sacramento:

  1. The effort to build a new expressway through Sacramento County, connecting the county from south of Elk Grove to El Dorado Hills continues. The project has shut down a portion of Prairie City Road between White Rock Road and Highway 50 starting Monday. The closure is expected to last about eight weeks. Officials say the Capital SouthEast Connector project is expected to generate about $1 billion in economic output and reduce the crash rate on rural roads in the area by 40%. "When complete, the long-planned project will serve as a commute alternative to Highways 50 and 99, relieve traffic congestion, promote economic development, preserve Sacramento County open spaces, and improve roadway safety," the city of Folsom said in a news release. (KCRA3)
  2. Sacramento led the nation's major cities in most smoke days over the last 4 years, a new study says. Between 2016 and 2020, Sacramento saw more than 50 smoke days. The report also found the increased smoky days cost the taxpayers $34 million after the federal government paid for an increase in the asthma medication Albuterol due to higher demand. (FOX40)
  3. Organizers with the Lost in Riddim Festival said they listened to ticket-holder feedback after a lack of resources and security caused panic and distress. Concert goers said it was like a "stampede" after the sound gunshots were reported at the festival Saturday night. Some also said there was a lack of food, water and security at the event that took place over the weekend at The Railyards in Sac. By the second day of the festival, organizers had taken several measures to ensure the comfort and safety of their guests, including upping security in all locations and adding several pallets of water which they made free at several hydration stations across the Railyards. (KCRA3)
  4. There's a chance that your parched grass is going to get some much needed rain this coming week! Highs on Thursday and Friday are projected to be around 68 degrees, with a slight chance of rain possible for Friday. And, snow bunnies, take note! There's even a slight chance of high elevation snow in the Sierras. (CBS Sacramento)
  5. Usually, the ambulance is a welcome sight, coming to your rescue, but how would you feel if the ambulance was the thing that caused your injury? That's how a Sacramento victim is feeling today after an ambulance that had been stolen by a parolee from a local hospital hit his vehicle, causing him injury. The ambulance driver was tracked down and arrested by police and is facing multiple felonies. Police are still investigating how this theft could have happened. (CBS Sacramento)

  • Here's what you need to know as the California eviction moratorium ends.
