Sacramento County slaughterhouse 'kill floor' moves forward despite neighbor backlash (amedpost.com) — A proposed 20-acre Greenfarm slaughterhouse with a 'kill floor' in rural Sacramento County is moving forward despite fierce opposition from Rio Linda-Elverta neighbors worried about odors, water contamination, and impacts on their kids. County planners narrowly approved the project, citing demand for local halal meat, while residents say they're not giving up even though no more public hearings are scheduled.
   

2. Sacramento-based Army Reserve soldiers receive medals after Iran war deployment (sacbee.com) — Sacramento Army Reserve soldiers from the 319th Expeditionary Signal Battalion were honored Saturday at the B.T. Collins Reserve Center with Purple Hearts and other medals after a dangerous deployment during the Iran war. Several honorees are Sacramento residents, and local members of Congress joined families to recognize their sacrifices, injuries, and return home to the community.
   

3. California roads are among the nation's most congested. Is adding lanes the answer? (napavalleyregister.com) — Drivers in Sacramento now spend nearly 69% of their time on highways, and the city is preparing roughly 100 projects to make walking and biking safer while easing congestion. A new analysis argues that simply widening roads often backfires, and highlights how Sacramento, San Francisco, and Los Angeles are instead investing in local streets, transit connections, and bike-friendly infrastructure to improve everyday travel.
   

4. 'It's heavy': Leaders call for hate crime investigation after Sikh truck driver stabbed (fox40.com) — A Sacramento-based Sikh truck driver is recovering after being stabbed 17 times at a Wyoming rest stop, while local advocate and Sacramento City Unified trustee Jasjit Singh urges a hate-crime investigation. Singh and Rep. Ami Bera say the case highlights rising anti-Sikh incidents and the dangers of inflammatory rhetoric, and they're calling for federal scrutiny as the suspect awaits a court appearance.
   

5. McFeely: Late kick, early dagger and the Bison are off to 4-0 start in FBS (inforum.com) — A nationally televised late-night matchup at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium saw North Dakota State jump to an early lead off a Hornets fumble and cruise to a 31-10 win. The game, part of Sac State's first FBS season and new conference move, highlighted the campus's growing big-game atmosphere even as Bison fans dominated the stands by the fourth quarter.
