🌱SCUSD Keeps Masks On + Midori @ Sac State + EG Community Garden

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

(Patch Media)

Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Sacramento Daily.

First, today's weather:

A brief morning shower or two. High: 69 Low: 45.

Here are the top five stories in Sacramento today:

  1. Masks are now optional on many public school campuses across California after the state's indoor mandate ended on Monday. It is now up to individual school districts to keep the requirement in place – or to simply recommend students, staff and faculty continue to wear them. Some local school districts, including Davis Joint Unified and Sacramento City Unified, have made the decision to keep the mandate in place until at least after spring break. (CBS Sacramento)
  2. Power has been restored to nearly 17,000 SMUD customers in Sacramento after a car crash on Sunday, authorities said. Power was knocked out Sunday afternoon on Fruitridge Road from 65th Street to Freeport and Folsom Boulevard, and from Fruitridge Road to 47th Avenue. By Monday morning, the map did not show any outages. (KCRA3)
  3. A suspected groper on a bike allegedly assaulted a woman at Cosumnes River College on Sunday. Police have not confirmed any connection between this and at least two other incidents of a bike rider groping women, the most recent at Sac State. They are telling the public to be on the lookout for a suspect on a teal bicycle, as photos from both the Cosumnes River assault and the Sac State assault show a suspect on a teal bike. (ABC10)
  4. On September 15 and September 16, the Sacramento Police Department received no less than four reports of robberies or attempted robberies involving a potentially armed suspect taking women's purses from their possession in the Stockton Boulevard corridor. During the investigations, officers learned that the suspect description provided in each robbery was similar. Detectives obtained evidence related to the robberies and identified the suspect as 19-year-old, Joseph Coln. On March 4, detectives booked Coln at the Sacramento County Main Jail for two counts of robbery and attempted robbery. The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this investigation to contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.(Press Release Desk)
  5. An online forum for Sacramento County District Attorney candidates Alana Mathews and Thien Ho, hosted by the Cruz Reynoso Bar Association and United Latinos, was held Wednesday. The event was moderated by Richard Falco of United Latinos, Josie Morales of NorCal Resist, and Joe Ayala with the California Legislative Counsel Bureau. A partial transcript can be found at this link. (The People's Vanguard of Davis)
