Welcome to the Thanksgiving Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Saturday November 27th, 2021!

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 63 Low: 44.

Here are the top stories today in Sacramento:

  1. The state's Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) last week dismissed a complaint alleging that Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen violated multiple aspects of the Political Reform Act. That complaint was filed earlier this month by the activist group, Elk Grove Hmong Americans (EGHA). The group claimed that Singh-Allen made derogatory comments that targeted the Hmong community. Two years ago, Singh-Allen used her personal Facebook page to refer to the Hmong familial clan system as a "controlling and intimidating system used to attack and silence these women." A letter from the FPPC stated "After review of the complaint and evidence provided, the Enforcement Division will not pursue an enforcement action in this matter," (Elk Grove Citizen)
  2. In Old Sacramento, this Christmas time will mean an early closing time for Steamers Cafe, where Janie Desmond Ison has been the owner for nearly three decades. Ison will be closing up two hours early each day, losing potential customers because she can't find enough employees to keep her doors open. She's offering $16.50 per hour - $3.50 over Sac City minimum wage - and she still can't find enough workers to staff up for as many open hours as she would like. Businesses coming back from the pandemic are ready to ring in the holidays. If they could only hire some help. (CBS Sacramento)
  3. East Sacramento homeowner Dorothy Livaich has lived in a house along the Run to Feed the Hungry race course for 61 years. She is well known as the woman who would sit on her front lawn and ring a bell to encourage runners. At 97, she has moved inside, but still delights in watching the runners run past her house. She said her family has run in every Run to Feed the Hungry since it started. (KCRA3)
  4. The Greater Sacramento NAACP will celebrate 105 years of advocacy with a special event scheduled for Monday, December 27. Partnering with the Sacramento Kings, the local civil rights organization will host the event at The Golden 1 Center from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. For more information, contact the Greater Sacramento NAACP at (530) 403-9718. (Sacramento Observer)
  5. Some local museum stores are offering discounts in an effort to boost sales as we head into the second holiday season amid the pandemic. More than 30 museum stores in and around Sacramento are participating in the fifth annual "Museum Store Sunday" on Sunday November 28. Museums with participating stores include the Aerospace Museum of California, the California State Railroad Museum, Sutter's Fort State Historic Park and more. (ABC10)
