Truckee Earthquake Swarm: Cluster Of Quakes Rattle Sierras

If you are headed to Truckee or Tahoe for the July 4th holiday, here is what you need to know about the recent quake activity.

TRUCKEE, CA — A swarm of more than 30 earthquakes in the Truckee area has rattled the nerves of some locals and visitors this week. The largest of the quake cluster was a magnitude 4.1 earthquake that hit the Sierra town early Tuesday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey. Many Tahoe Donner residents took to social media to talk about the quakes.

The tiny temblors have continued, and local seismologists at the Nevada Seismological Laboratory are monitoring the quakes. Experts remind residents to “drop, cover and hold on” in the event of a strong earthquake.

Truckee is a town in Nevada County with a population of more than 16,000 residents. It is a popular destination spot for those visiting the Lake Tahoe area.
