🌱Tyrese Haliburton Trade + Sac Metro Makes Amends +Record Highs?

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

(Patch Media)

Happy Wednesday, Sacramento! Here's everything you need to know going on in Sacramento today.

First, today's weather:

Patchy low clouds and fog. High: 72 Low: 43.

Here are the top five stories today in Sacramento:

  1. The Sacramento Kings will be trading guard Tyrese Haliburton for the Indiana Pacer's two-time All-Star center Domantas Sabonis, sources close to the Kings confirmed to KCRA on Tuesday. Haliburton, the No. 12 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft in two seasons with the Kings, averaged 13.6 points, 6.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Sabonis' career with the Pacers started in 2017. Sabonis averaged around 18 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. The NBA trade deadline is 3 p.m. Thursday. (KCRA3)
  2. A Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crew forgot to wipe off their boots when responding to a recent medical call, and they were determined to make it right. Firefighters responding to a medical call to take Fred Stewart to the hospital tracked in mud and dirt "just from being along the parkway prior to going into their house," Capt. Nick Mack of Sacramento Metro Fire Station 105 said. The Stewarts didn't think twice about it. They had their carpet cleaned a few days later. But the crew at Station 105 didn't want to leave things at that. "We all as a crew pitched in a little bit of money," Mack said. "Once again, very sorry for dirtying up your carpets. Here's a little something to maybe help out with the costs." They put that money in a card and showed up at the Stewarts' door. Fred Stewart couldn't believe it. "When I opened that, I darn-near cried," he said. The Stewarts were so moved, they decided to pay it forward. They're planning to make a donation to the Firefighters Burn Institute. (KCRA3)
  3. A new mural of social justice historical figures was dedicated Tuesday at a site in South Oak Park. The new mural is 90 feet long and features Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. The mural is located at Security Public Storage on the corner of Fruitridge Road and Martin Luther King Boulevard. "We have three other locations in Sacramento and two in Roseville, but that one, we thought was beneficial because of the (wall) size and actually where it's located right there by MLK Jr. Boulevard," said Paul Anderson, the Security Public Storage Local Marketing Manager. Jerry Ragg, the mural's artist, said he was honored to take on this project, which took him about four to five days to complete. (FOX40)
  4. Warmer temperatures will remain in Sacramento through the weekend with the potential for record highs. The forecasted highs will be steady in mid-to-low 70s through Sunday, and record warmth could be reached Wednesday through Friday. Though warmer temperatures are in the forecast, winds are expected to pick up Tuesday and Wednesday, with gusts in the valley expected to reach as high as 25 miles per hour in the Sacramento Valley both days. The foothills and the delta may see gusts of up to 30 miles per hour on Wednesday. (Good Day Sacramento)
  5. Monday marked night number one for a new and controversial homeless campsite at Miller Park in the city of Sacramento. Some hope this new site could help reduce the growing crime problem in that area. The location at Miller Park has 60 tents capable of housing more than 100 homeless individuals, along with electricity, portable toilets and showers. The area is fenced off and monitored 24-hours a day. "People will be searched when they come in to make sure that there's not any things being brought into the site that would be unsafe for the community," a city official said. Many hope getting the homeless off the streets and into a controlled environment with counseling will help with crime in this neighborhood that has skyrocketed over the last two years as the homeless population along the Broadway corridor increased.
