$1K Reward Offered In Weekend Felony Hit-And-Run In SD

An elderly passenger in the car, left behind by the driver who reportedly fled on foot, is not expected to survive, officials said.

SAN DIEGO, CA – San Diego County Crime Stoppers and San Diego Police Department investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying a driver who, over Memorial Day weekend, allegedly crashed into a parked vehicle in the Lincoln Park area, then fled on foot leaving two hurt passengers, including a 79-year-old man with major injuries, officials said.

A reward of up to $1,000 is available to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in the case, according to Crime Stoppers..

The accident occurred Sunday at approximately 4:50 a.m. on the 500 block of South 47th Street in San Diego as the vehicle, a gray, 2010 Mazda 3, traveled south on 47th Street. The female motorist reportedly "made a move to the right and struck an unoccupied, parked SUV," the agency said.

"The collision caused a 79-year-old male passenger, who was sitting unrestrained in the back seat of the Mazda, to be thrown forward striking the front passenger’s seat," Crime Stoppers said. "A 39-year-old male passenger, who was sitting in the front passenger’s seat, suffered minor injuries."

The elderly victim, suffering multiple, major head and neck injuries, was taken to a local hospital and is not expected to survive, the agency said.

Due to the severity of his injuries, the older passenger was unable to give police a statement, according to SDPD traffic-division Sgt. Victoria Houseman. The younger man, for his part, told investigators he had only recently met the woman and "could not provide any information regarding her identity," the sergeant said.

The driver reportedly got out of the Mazda and walked away from the scene before police arrived. She was described as a black woman in her 50s, wearing a long-sleeve purple shirt, gray jeans with multiple rips, black socks and no shoes, authorities said.
