According to police, Payton and Prevot had an argument in a parking lot on Imperial Avenue. During the argument, Prevot allegedly walked away and retrieved a handgun from his vehicle, police said.

The argument "escalated to a point where the suspect took out a handgun and shot the victim at least one time, fatally striking him in the chest," according to police.

Police said both suspects fled the scene in the vehicle, but detectives found them at a residence in the 1800 block of State Street near the Harborview neighborhood.

Both suspects were taken into custody without incident, police said.
