Bodies Found In Well | Warming Trend | 7 Wounded In Shooting

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should know that a warming trend is expected this week, according to the National Weather Service.

"Gradually warming conditions expected through mid-week," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Sunday. "Periods of breezy westerly winds expected in the afternoons and evenings in the mountains and deserts early this week, with the potential for offshore winds Wednesday. Warmer and dry conditions are expected into next weekend."

In other news, police cleared a pro-Palestinian protest encampment over the weekend at the University of Southern California. The move to clear the encampment followed harassment, defacement, theft of university property, the dismantling of commencement structures, noise disruptions during final exams and outside agitators jumping perimeter fencing and assaulting school officers, according to USC President Carol Folt.

Elsewhere, the search for three surfers ended when three bodies were recovered from a 50-foot well in Baja California. They were identified as a San Diego man and two brothers from Australia, according to reports, which said the trio are believed to have been killed by thieves who wanted their truck tires. The well also contained a fourth body that had been there far longer, according to the Associated Press.

A man drowned in a lake in Orange County, authorities said. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Underwater Search and Recovery Team found the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seven men were wounded when at least two gunmen opened fire in the parking lot of a Long Beach nightclub. Police are calling the shooting a gang-related attack.

Plus, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that travel spending in California hit an all-time high of $150.4 billion in 2023, outdoing the previous record of $144.9 billion spent in 2019. The state has retained its title as the world's 5th largest economy and has had a population increase, according to the governor.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter hoisted the person to a nearby landing zone, where an ambulance was waiting.

A gang task force raided a site in Beaumont and seized 17 firearms along with firearm manufacturing machinery, authorities said.

A white powdery substance was observed also inside, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

3 Found Dead In Well In Baja California; San Diego Surfer Likely Among Deceased: Reports

A fourth body was also found in the well but had been there far longer, according to the Associated Press.

7 Men Wounded In Long Beach Shooting

Police are calling the shooting a gang-related attack.

The fire sparked in a two-story residence.

A total of 24 personnel were assigned to the rescue, including one truck, three engines and one medic, officials said.

The school said that Los Angeles police were clearing the center of campus, advising that anyone who didn't leave could be arrested.
