SAN DIEGO, CA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.
But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect a significant cooling trend this week, according to the National Weather Service.
"Monsoon moisture will be increasing Monday night into Tuesday resulting (in) increasing shower and thunderstorm chances that may continue into Wednesday," NWS Los Angeles forecasters wrote Sunday.

California has prepositioned firefighting resources across the state in anticipation of thunderstorms bringing heavy rain, dry lightning and gusty winds that could spark new wildfires, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced.
In other news, authorities were investigating the death of a 2-month-old baby; dozens of foster pets were killed in an apartment fire; a man was arrested on suspicion of lewd acts with children at a treatment facility; and a registered sex offender was arrested on suspicion of two sexual assaults. Also, a skateboarder was fatally struck by a police car; several people working on a navy ship were hospitalized after suffering smoke inhalation; and vandals spray-painted anti-LGBTQ+ messages outside Long Beach Pride headquarters.

Plus, thousands of volunteers flocked to the California coast and waterways on Saturday to participate in the 41st annual California Coastal Cleanup Day. According to the California Coastal Commission, which leads the statewide effort, 19,987 volunteers picked up 178,296 pounds of trash and recyclables.
