Mark your calendars–Mama’s Kitchen is hosting its annual Mama’s Day fundraiser, a culinary event featuring some of San Diego’s best chefs, restaurants, catering companies, hotels, and more, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront on Friday, May 3, starting at 5:30 p.m.

The event features unlimited tasting from the participating culinary partners. Attendees will also be treated to live entertainment from local artists and musicians, pop-up booths from retailers, a silent auction, and a photo booth to commemorate the evening.

Past culinary partners range from upscale eateries and beloved cafes to local bakeries and fish houses. Among the many food and beverage purveyors who have committed to this year’s Mama’s Day, Mama’s Kitchen is appreciative of the continued longtime support from chefs from The Plot, The Cottage, Piatti, Sally’s Fish House, and Snooze. Attendees can expect to experience these fine culinarians along with a diverse offering of delectable bites and drinks from the region.

“Without an event like Mama’s Day, and the support the community gives it, more San Diegans battling HIV, cancer, and other critical illnesses would experience malnutrition,” says Mama’s Kitchen CEO Eva Matthews. “The proceeds from this event are essential to our ability to deliver medically tailored meals to those who need it most. It’s just a nice bonus that we get to indulge in such amazing food while raising the funds we need to continue our mission as the region’s largest provider of delivered meals.”

All proceeds from the event are funneled directly to the non-profit’s delivery services, allowing for even more critically ill San Diegans to receive free medically tailored meal deliveries. Mama’s Day 2023 raised $132,390, which helped provide an additional 61,084 meals to those in need around San Diego. This year, Mama’s Kitchen aims to raise $140,000 to help fund 50,000 meals for its clients.

The event is also thrilled to announce a brand new location at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Though Mama’s Day has traditionally been held on the Friday before Mother's Day, the event is once again set for early May to ease the challenge that restaurants typically face around Mother’s Day weekend.

Early bird ticket sales for Mama’s Day begin March 22 through March 31 and start at $125. Regular priced ticket sales begin April 1. Tickets can be purchased online at mamaskitchen.org. For sponsorship opportunities or information on how to become a participating restaurant or chef, interested parties can contact Silvia Dominguez at silvia@mamaskitchen.org or at 619-233-6262.

ABOUT MAMA’S KITCHEN
Mama's Kitchen was established in 1990 by a San Diego caregiver who enlisted volunteers to prepare and deliver free meals to neighbors who were sick with HIV/AIDS and unable to cook for themselves. The organization realized that a reliable home-delivered meal service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious, life-sustaining food. Since then, the organization has expanded its Medically Tailored Meal Service program to other at-risk populations including those battling cancer (2006), individuals with heart failure and diabetes (2018), and individuals with chronic kidney disease (2020). Beyond medically tailored meals, clients also receive nutritional counseling from registered dietitians. In 2022, the organization delivered its 11 millionth meal.

For 33 years, Mama’s Kitchen has never turned away a client who qualified for its services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization responded to an overall 50 percent increase in demand. Mama’s Kitchen continues to provide emergency response efforts, nutrition education services, and more than 816,000 home-delivered medically tailored meals to more than 2,600 individuals and families in San Diego County annually. Mama’s Kitchen is San Diego’s largest provider of delivered meals and the only provider of medically tailored nutrition. Learn more and make a donation at www.mamaskitchen.org.
