Inmate Accused Of Child Molestation Found Dead In San Diego Jail

Deputies found Majid Arif Almajid, 38, unresponsive in his bunk at the George Bailey Detention Facility, authorities said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — An inmate accused of child molestation was found dead over the weekend in his San Diego jail cell.

Deputies found Majid Arif Almajid, 38, unresponsive Sunday in his bunk at the George Bailey Detention Facility, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Deputies, jail medical staff and Cal Fire paramedics performed medical aid, but he died around 11:15 a.m.

Almajid, who lived in Ramona, was arrested Dec. 20, 2023, by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force for several counts of sexual intercourse or sodomy on a child 10 years or younger and oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 years or younger, according to the sheriff's department. He was booked into the San Diego Central Jail and transferred on Dec. 26 to the George Bailey Detention Facility.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause and manner of his death.

The Sheriff's Homicide Unit was investigating and the Citizens' Law Enforcement Review Board was notified of the death.
