SAN DIEGO — A 28-year-old suffered brain damage after he was brutally beaten outside his apartment in City Heights by a man known to be a transient in the area, according to reports.
Louis Estrada was found bleeding in an alley last month after he went to confront a man whom Estrada’s father, Johnny Castillo, described as a “transient known for causing problems in the area,” KGTV reported, adding that Phillip Hightower, 41, is charged with attempted murder in the case.
“Their son was severely beaten by a transient who refused to leave from outside their window,” according to a GoFundMe page started to support the family.
“When they found him, he was bleeding heavily and is now in a coma with brain damage, kept alive on life support. The emotional toll is overwhelming, and every day brings new challenges as they wait by his side, hoping for a miracle.”
As of Saturday, Estrada had developed pneumonia but was “still fighting,” the GoFundMe page said.
