📰 News we're reading

• More than 200 parking meters coming to San Ysidro – NBC 7 San Diego (nbcsandiego.com) — San Diego is installing 286 new parking meters in San Ysidro starting in June, adding four-hour limits and paid parking along key streets near the U.S.-Mexico border. City officials say meter revenue will fund parking and safety improvements, while residents and workers worry about impacts on daily routines and local businesses that rely on nearby free parking.

• San Diego honors fallen service members at Miramar National Cemetery ahead of Memorial Day (cbs8.com) — San Diego residents gathered Sunday at Miramar National Cemetery for a solemn Memorial Day ceremony honoring fallen service members, with thousands of flags placed by local volunteers. Speakers, including retired Captain Steven Shepard, urged attendees to focus on sacrifice over barbecues and summer kickoffs, while families and veterans shared why paying respects at this San Diego site remains so meaningful.

• Volunteers help families honor loved ones this Memorial Day weekend (nbcsandiego.com) — Volunteers gathered at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego to honor fallen servicemembers for Memorial Day by placing special tokens on graves for families who couldn’t attend in person. The Travis Manion Foundation’s #TheHonorProject has grown into a nationwide effort, and organizers say they’re looking for more local volunteers who want to help continue this tradition of remembrance.
