Today's riddle: What day of the year is trucker's day? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. San Diego's Popular Kids Free In October Program Expands To Tijuana For First Time (patch.com) — Families in San Diego can once again score big savings this October as more than 60 museums and attractions across the county offer free admission for kids with a paid adult, now extending to Tijuana for the first time. Local favorites like the USS Midway Museum, Birch Aquarium and the San Diego Museum of Art are participating, with coupons available through the San Diego Museum Council. The program aims to make arts and culture more accessible while encouraging families to explore new and familiar spots across the region.
2. Rare Sea Snakes, Tropical Fish Could Turn Up Along San Diego County Coast During El Niño (patch.com) — Warmer El Niño waters could bring rare sea snakes and tropical fish within sight of San Diego County beaches in the coming months, as species typically found off Mexico ride north on changing currents. Scientists warn that local seals and sea lions may also face food shortages and domoic acid poisoning, and they urge San Diegans to report unusual fish or distressed marine mammals to the proper hotlines. The outlook highlights how global climate patterns may be felt directly along San Diego's shoreline.
3. Family Of 3 Found Dead In San Diego Home Identified (patch.com) — San Diego police have identified David and Amy Voight and their 13-year-old daughter as the three family members found shot to death in their Lake Murray home on Boulder Lake Avenue. Investigators say all appear to have died from gunshot wounds and a firearm was recovered inside, but they have not yet explained the circumstances or who fired the shots. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers.
4. Golden Retriever Greets Burglar With Toys During San Diego Break-In (patch.com) — A San Diego couple returning from Chicago watched via their Ring cameras as a burglar climbed into their Sherman Heights home, raided the fridge, and napped while their golden retriever Nash kept bringing him toys. From the plane, they alerted San Diego police, who used live video and a drone to quickly enter the house and arrest the suspect on suspicion of first-degree burglary. The unusual encounter and Nash's friendly behavior have since gone viral online.
5. Man Fatally Shot By San Diego Police After Setting K-9 On Fire: Sheriff's Office (patch.com) — San Diego residents are learning more about a deadly police shooting in North Park, where officers say a man armed with an incendiary device set an SDPD K-9 on fire before being shot. The incident left the man dead, three officers burned, and the dog injured, and it is now under investigation by the sheriff's Homicide Unit and the district attorney's office.
