Otay Mesa Port Of Entry Closed Due To Suspicious Package

SAN DIEGO, CA — The Otay Mesa Port of Entry was closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic Wednesday morning while authorities investigated a suspicious package, authorities said.

Travelers attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border were being directed to use the San Ysidro Port of Entry until further notice. Police urged people to avoid the Otay Mesa area and expect delays.

The closure also affected traffic on state Route 905. All eastbound traffic approaching the Otay Mesa Port of Entry was being diverted at Siempre Viva Road because of police activity, according to Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol.

It was not immediately clear what prompted authorities to consider the package suspicious or when the Otay Mesa Port of Entry would reopen.
