SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.
But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, hot weather and breezy Santa Ana winds are expected to continue through Monday, with an elevated fire risk, according to the National Weather Service.
"High pressure remains over the region, bringing a prolonged period of hot weather, most notable west of the mountains," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Sunday. "Breezy Santa Ana winds will continue through Monday; highest winds will be near the coastal-facing mountain slopes with an elevated fire weather risk. Confidence is increasing that cooler weather enters the picture by the end of the week, but details in how cool we become and if any wet weather arrives is still uncertain."
In other news, a wildfire burned more than 1,000 acres and prompted evacuations; two people were killed in a shooting at a strip mall; and a pilot killed in a medevac crash previously flew the president's Marine One helicopter.
Also, reports emerged that a student who fell to his death from a Southern California school had been bullied; and police released video of a fatal officer-involved shooting.
Plus, California could reinstate a hunting season on bobcats six years after lawmakers made it illegal.
