SAN DIEGO, CA — A 37-year-old woman who prompted a lockdown at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Tuesday was detained Wednesday for a mental health evaluation, police said.
San Diego police responded to the mosque Tuesday after receiving a report of a woman who was possibly armed with a gun and experiencing a mental health crisis.
The woman had left the Islamic Center before officers arrived and was later determined to be outside San Diego County, according to the San Diego Police Department. The mosque was subsequently cleared to resume services.
On Wednesday morning, police received a report that the woman had returned to the Islamic Center. Mosque officials had been in contact with her overnight and invited her back to provide assistance, police said.
Officers and clinicians from the department's Psychiatric Emergency Response Team responded and detained the woman for a mental health evaluation.
The woman was not arrested and was not facing criminal charges, according to police.
