SAN DIEGO, CA — Two men were arrested after about 15 children received psilocybin gummies while trick-or-treating on Halloween in San Diego's Ocean Beach neighborhood, authorities said.

Parents noticed the suspicious packages, confronted the residents and later reported the incident to police. A package saved by the parents tested positive for psilocybin, a hallucinogenic substance found in certain mushrooms, police said.

Officers and narcotics detectives searched the home Wednesday and found a bag of suspected psilocybin gummies identical to those distributed on Halloween, according to police.

Detectives also seized more than 2.5 pounds of cannabis, more than 25 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, drug packaging materials and records of suspected drug sales. Police also recovered an illegally possessed rifle, dozens of rounds of ammunition and a partially assembled pistol.

Michael Goff, 80, was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Shawn Michael Foster, 45, was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Both men were booked into San Diego County Jail.

City code enforcement officials are also investigating unpermitted living structures on the property.

The investigation into suspected drug offenses and child endangerment remains ongoing. Police did not say whether any children consumed the gummies or became ill.

Anyone with information was asked to call the department's Narcotics Unit at 619-531-2468 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
