Barona Band Of Mission Indians Awards $5K Grant To Lincoln Acres
The Barona Band of Mission Indians awarded a $5,000 education grant to Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City.
SAN DIEGO — The Barona Band of Mission Indians announced Tuesday that it awarded a $5,000 education grant to Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City.
Barona Tribal Chairman Edwin "Thorpe" Romero and Sen. Ben Hueso, D- San Diego, presented the science, technology, engineering, art and math grant to Lincoln Acres Principal Raymond Ruiz and National School District Board President Alma Sarmiento.
School officials said they plan to use the grant funds to purchase 25 LED digital camera microscopes and 40 portable digital microscopes.

"Lincoln Acres is leading the way with development in STEAM+," Romero said. "The purchase of these microscopes will continue to help build on this foundation and set the stage for a better learning and understanding of the STEAM+ program."
The Barona Band of Mission Indians launched its education grant program in 2006 and has since awarded some $3.6 million to more than 700 schools around the state. Potential grant recipients can apply at barona- nsn.gov/education.

"We are so thankful to Sen. Ben Hueso and the Barona Band of Mission Indians for choosing National School District for this generous grant," Sarmiento said. "Having classroom and portable lab microscopes will enable our Lincoln Acres students to experience what it is like to be a scientist, and open doors to future work options."
