Children Can Get Free Haircuts, School Supplies At Back-To-School Haircut Drive Saturday

LA MESA, CA — Children can receive free haircuts, school supplies and other back-to-school essentials Saturday during the Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation's 10th annual Back-To-School Haircut Drive in La Mesa.

The free event is open to children 18 and younger on a first-come, first-served basis. Organizers said thousands of children and families are expected to attend.

In addition to free haircuts, attendees will receive school supplies, food and giveaways. The event also will feature a DJ, bounce houses and tickets to local attractions and sporting events.

More than 1,000 children attended last year's event, according to organizers. The foundation said this year's event marks the program's 10th anniversary.

"Reaching our 10th year is a real milestone for us, and we can't wait to celebrate it with the community this Saturday," said Miles Himmel, founder of the Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation. "Every child deserves the opportunity to start the school year with confidence."

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Skyline Church at 11330 Campo Road. The haircut drive is presented in partnership with California Barber & Beauty College and Skyline Church.

The Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation was established in 2014 following the death of longtime San Diego television reporter Larry Himmel. The nonprofit provides resources and support to individuals and organizations throughout the county.
