Coronado Carjacking Leaves Owner Critically Injured; Robbers Arrested
The car owner was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

CORONADO, CA — A carjacking in Coronado Sunday turned violent when the owner of a vehicle who jumped on the hood of his car to try to stop the theft was found seriously injured and the would-be robbers were later arrested.
The vehicle and its owner were found when the 18-year-old suspect crashed into a toll plaza around 5:20 a.m. after witnesses saw a tan sedan on Orange Avenue with a man on the hood yelling at the driver, according to Coronado police.
After the crash, witnesses saw the driver and passenger run from the scene. Police found the 33-year-old car owner lying in a lane of the toll structure. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 18-year-old driver and juvenile female passenger were found on the nearby bridge access road, police said. The car was found facing east in westbound lanes, where it had struck the concrete toll structure.
The suspected carjacker was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, stealing a vehicle, felony hit-and-run and attempted murder, according to ABC 10.

The name of the driver was not immediately released. It was unclear if the passenger will face charges.
