SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should know that the heat wave will continue this week, according to the National Weather Service.

"A long-lasting and extreme heatwave will continue across the mountains and interior areas through much of the coming week as a strong high pressure system remains anchored over the region," NWS Los Angeles forecasters wrote Monday. "A high risk for dangerous heat illness exists across the interior portions of the area. Above normal temperatures are likely across much of the area into late week, along with an increasing risk of heat issues in the valleys towards the latter half of the week."

In other news, a man was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a UCLA student in her dorm room on campus, authorities said.

An estimated 60 to 70 juveniles were detained following a "large scale disturbance" at a Southern California mall before being released to their parents or guardians, officials said.
