Earthquakes Near Anza Rattle Southern California

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — A series of earthquakes struck Friday evening in southern Riverside County that rattled parts of Southern California.

A preliminary magnitude 4.9 quake hit at 6:53 p.m. about 10 miles east-southeast of Anza, a census-designated place in Riverside County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was followed by at least six aftershocks. The biggest aftershock registered a preliminary magnitude 3.7 at 7:05 p.m.

Although centered near Anza, the largest quake was felt in parts of Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties, the USGS reported. The quake hit approximately 23 miles from Palm Springs, 62 miles from San Diego and 63 miles from San Bernardino.

No damage or injuries were immediately reported.
