Escaped Prisoner From Reentry Program Captured In San Diego
Authorities took Eric Lewis, 52, into custody roughly 12 hours after he walked away from a male community reentry program facility.

SAN DIEGO, CA — An incarcerated man who walked away from a halfway house this week in San Diego was captured Wednesday, authorities said.
Personnel with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation took Eric Lewis, 52, into custody shortly before 9 a.m., roughly 12 hours after he walked away from a male community reentry program facility in San Diego.
He was taken to Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, according to the CDCR. His case will be referred to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office for possible escape charges.

Lewis had been housed at the San Diego male community reentry program facility since Jan. 29.
He was sentenced in 2023 to three years and eight months in prison for drug and weapons offenses while released on bail, according to the CDCR.

The reentry program allows eligible inmates with two years or less remaining of their prison sentence to serve the rest of their sentence in the community.
