Fire Burns At Auto Body Shop In San Diego

The two-alarm blaze broke out at Diko Auto Repair near the San Diego International Airport​.

SAN DIEGO, CA – A fire sparked at an auto body shop near the San Diego International Airport Thursday morning.

The two-alarm fire started around 8:20 a.m. at Diko Auto Repair at 4005 Pacific Highway in downtown San Diego, north of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot and northeast of the airport. The flames sent a thick plume of black smoke above the Mission Hills area of San Diego.

At least eight fire engines, four water tankers, a water-dropping helicopter and dozens of other apparatus were dispatched to the scene, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The owner of the business told firefighters at the scene that all employees evacuated the building, according to dispatchers. No injuries have been reported.

Crews expect to be on scene for several hours, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
