Fire Burns Over 100 Acres At MCAS Miramar

SAN DIEGO, CA — A wildfire ignited by a military training exercise scorched more than 100 acres Tuesday at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

An explosive ordnance disposal detonation sparked the fire shortly after 2:30 p.m. in East Miramar, according to military officials at MCAS Miramar. By 5 p.m., the blaze grew to 105 acres.

Crews with the Miramar Fire Department and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department battled the blaze. Two helicopters and two Type 3 Strike Teams from SDFD helped fight the flames.

By 5:45 p.m., crews stopped the spread of the blaze at roughly 105 acres, officials said. No injuries or structural damage were reported.
