Grossmont Healthcare District Grants Nonprofits $1.3 Million To Support Underserved

The Grossmont Healthcare District granted more than $1.3 million to 30 local nonprofit health organizations, including more than $227,000 to Grossmont Union High School District, it was announced Friday.

These grants are intended to support local organizations providing for underserved populations, such as rural residents who do not have access to care as easily as those in more urban, well-populated areas.

“Providing grants and sponsorships to local health organizations is one way the Grossmont Healthcare District gives back to the local community,” said Virginia Hall, board president of the district. “Especially as the pandemic continues to create challenges, we are proud to help support our residents in reaching their full health potential.”

Grossmont Union High School District received funs for its “Health Career Pathway Initiative” program. The initiative is intended to address the shortage of healthcare workers through providing more than 2,000 students with experience in the healthcare field.

Volunteers in Medicine, a free clinic run completely by health professionals who volunteer their time, received $146,000 to continue serving 50,000 uninsured residents who reside in the East region.

Additionally, the district granted Family Health Centers $70,939, San Ysidro Health $70,000, Home of Guiding Hands, $69,000 and Grossmont Hospital Foundation $50,000. Other grants were awarded to health organizations in amounts ranging from $2,000 to $47,000.

Grant and sponsorship applicants interested in the next round of awards can begin applying on July 1. Applications are reviewed and approved through December 31.
