Lightning, Thunder Linked to Power Outages in San Diego

The blackouts began early Monday morning, according to SDG&E.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Power outages linked to thunderstorms and lightning strikes left more than 2,100 San Diego-area homes and businesses without electrical service for hours Monday.

Most of the extended blackouts occurred over a roughly four-hour period beginning around 3 a.m. and affected about 2,140 utility customers, San Diego Gas & Electric spokeswoman Elizabeth Beaver said.

By late morning, service had been restored to all but 395 addresses in University Heights and another 130 in City Heights, Beaver said.
