Man Fatally Struck By Amtrak Train In San Diego

The deadly train collision happened near the intersection of California and Grape streets, officials said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was hit and killed by a train Wednesday night in San Diego.

The deadly train collision happened at 11:07 p.m. near the intersection of California and Grape streets, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

"When San Diego police officers arrived, they found a man who was hit by a southbound Amtrak train," sheriff's Sgt. Jason King said. "The patient was transported to a local hospital, but he did not survive his injuries."

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the man and determine the cause and manner of his death, King said.

The sheriff's department was handling the investigation because the department's Transit Enforcement Unit investigates incidents along the routes of the North County Transit District which Amtrak uses.
