SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A man was killed in a four-vehicle crash over the weekend on Interstate 15 in northern San Diego County, the California Highway Patrol announced Monday.

The crash happened at 2:15 a.m. Sunday on southbound I-15, south of Gopher Canyon Road, in unincorporated Escondido. For reasons still being investigated, the driver of a Dodge Challenger, a 32-year-old man from Temecula, came to a stop in the first southbound lane of the freeway, according to the CHP. An Infinity G37 then collided into the back of the Dodge. Subsequently, an Acura MDX traveling behind the Infinity crashed into the back of the Infinity and the left side of a Honda CRV that was in the second southbound lane.

The driver of the Dodge, a 32-year-old Temecula man whose name has not yet been released, died at the scene, CHP officer Hunter Gerber said. The driver of the Infinity and its two passengers suffered major non-life threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals.
