Man Suspected Of Shooting Mother, Killing 2 Others In Point Loma: Police

A 60-year-old man was taken into custody, police said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was suspected of shooting his mother and killing two other people Wednesday in the Point Loma area of San Diego, authorities said.

The shooting happened at about 3:55 p.m. in the 3600 block of Zola Street, not far from Point Loma High School, according to the San Diego Police Department.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 60s were found suffering from gunshot wounds at a house, Lt. Jud Campbell said. They were pronounced dead at the scene, but were not immediately identified.

A third victim, a woman in her 80s, was found suffering from gunshot wounds, Campbell said. She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

A 60-year-old man at the front of the home was taken into custody, Campbell said. Officers found what appeared to be a shotgun near the front of the residence.

"The initial information indicates that this event is family related as the suspect is the son of the surviving victim, and it is believed they both live at the residence," Campbell said. "The exact details of what happened and why remain under investigation."
