Nearly $10M In Drugs Seized At Ports Of Entry In San Diego Area

Officers seized more than 2,300 pounds of cocaine​, fentanyl pills and powder, marijuana​ and methamphetamine last weekend, officials said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Officers seized nearly $10 million worth of drugs last weekend at ports of entry in Calexico, Otay Mesa, San Ysidro and Tecate, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced.

CBP officers seized more than 2,300 pounds of cocaine, fentanyl pills and powder, marijuana and methamphetamine Oct. 27-28, which officials said had an estimated street value of $9,520,365.

On Friday, 299 packages of drugs were found hidden in decorative planters and vehicles, and strapped to the body of a traveler. On Saturday, 280 packages of drugs were found in hidden in vehicles.

"The astonishing number of narcotics seized this past weekend is a testament to the tremendous
efforts of our CBP officers here in the San Diego Field Office," said Sidney Aki, CBP director of
field operations for San Diego. "As criminal organizations continue to evolve, CBP's drug
interdictions show that we are making headway at disrupting cross-border criminal activity."

All smuggling suspects were turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation, according to CBP.
