New Mediterranean Restaurant Opening In Coronado

CORONADO, CA — A new Mediterranean-inspired restaurant is set to open Wednesday in Coronado.

By The Sea, founded by Coronado residents Doug and Lara Hamm, will open at 1300 Orange Ave. The husband-and-wife team also owns Black Swan Hospitality.

The restaurant will serve Mediterranean-inspired dishes featuring seafood, pasta, meats and vegetables, with ingredients sourced from local farmers and fishermen, including A Mano Cheese, who handcrafts fresh burrata daily, Connelly Farms, JR Organics, and Girl & Dug.

The menu features starters like bay scallop crudo, calamari fritti and octopus, as well as fresh salads and hearty vegetable dishes like beet, broccolini and carrots. The menu offers a variety of pastas, including lamb cavatelli and linguine and clams, as well as mains like grilled branzino, a grilled half chicken and a dry-aged ribeye. Desserts include vanilla soft serve, Amalfi lemon sorbetto and crème fraîche panna cotta.

The restaurant's beverage program includes seasonal cocktails, fresh-squeezed juices and a wine list featuring sparkling, white, red and rosé wines. Champagne offerings include Dom Pérignon and Ruinart.

By The Sea occupies a 6,500-square-foot space with indoor and outdoor dining areas that can seat up to 245 guests. The restaurant was designed by Tecture and features an indoor lounge and bar, a skylit dining room, and an outdoor patio shaded by eucalyptus trees.

By The Sea will be open from 4 to 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, and 4 to 11 p.m. Sunday and Monday. It will be closed Tuesdays.

The restaurant is located at at 1300 Orange Ave. in Coronado.
