North Island Credit Union Launches Book Drive For San Diego Students

SAN DIEGO, CA — North Island Credit Union is collecting new books throughout August to help provide reading materials to elementary school students across San Diego County.

The credit union is partnering with ABC 10News for the fifth annual book drive supporting the station's "Storytime" childhood literacy campaign. Community members can donate new books for kindergarten through elementary school-aged children at any North Island Credit Union branch in the county.

Donated books will be distributed to students at local Title 1 schools, where the program aims to expand access to books beyond the classroom.

"Books can introduce children to new ideas, strengthen their confidence and inspire a lifelong interest in learning," North Island Credit Union President and CEO Steve O'Connell said in a statement.

The drive runs through Aug. 31. Monetary donations also are accepted and will be used to purchase books for local students.

Donations can be dropped off at North Island Credit Union branches, including locations in Chula Vista, El Cajon, Escondido, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, Murrieta and San Diego.

The "Storytime" program, a partnership between North Island Credit Union and ABC 10News with support from the San Diego Council on Literacy, hosts mini book fairs at Title 1 schools throughout the county, allowing students to take home free books and encouraging reading beyond the classroom.
