Ocean Beach Pier Re-Opens After Railing Repaired

The Ocean Beach Pier re-opened Sunday when city carpenters repaired a railing that was damaged by pounding surf, San Diego lifeguards said.

SAN DIEGO — After being closed for three days, the Ocean Beach Pier was re-opened Sunday when city carpenters repaired a railing that was damaged by pounding surf, San Diego lifeguards said.

The pier was closed to the public on Friday as a safety precaution, Lt. Andy Lerum of the San Diego Lifeguard Service said. Lifeguards examined the pier on Saturday and discovered the damaged section of the railing.

The lifeguard service sent out a Twitter message to the public Sunday that read: "The Ocean Beach Pier remains closed due to minor damage to the south railing. City carpenters will be repairing the railing as soon as possible. Large surf caused the damage yesterday. We'll send out an update when the OB Pier is re-opened."
