📰 News we're reading
• Father Joe's, Irwin Jacobs begin partnership to address senior homelessness (10news.com) — San Diego seniors facing homelessness could see new support thanks to a $50 million, five-year partnership between Father Joe's Villages and philanthropist Irwin Jacobs. The funding will help create 710 affordable homes and expanded services at 1501 Imperial Avenue, focusing on assisted living, health care, and housing programs for older adults increasingly falling into homelessness across the county.

• San Diegans relieved power has been restored following unplanned outage (nbcsandiego.com) — San Diego residents in neighborhoods like Kearney Mesa and Encanto just had power restored after unplanned outages lasting up to 19 hours during an exceptionally hot weekend. SDG&E says the rotating outages were needed to protect the grid, but affected customers are frustrated by spoiled food, concerns over refrigerated medications, and what they see as poor communication and limited transparency.

• Ask a Researcher: Taharka Adé (sdsu.edu) — San Diego State University has launched the Africana Research & Cultural Renaissance Center, giving San Diego communities a new hub focused on African and African diasporic cultural knowledge. The center will partner closely with local residents on projects like cultural mapping, oral histories, and public exhibits, aiming to advance cultural justice while offering students hands-on research opportunities tied to community needs.
