SUV Hits, Kills Pedestrian On I-5 Near Downtown San Diego
A 23-year-old man died when a vehicle struck him as he was walking on Interstate 5 in the Banker's Hill area.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 23-year-old man died Thursday when a vehicle struck him as he was walking on Interstate 5 in the Banker's Hill area.
A Kia SUV hit the pedestrian at about 6 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near West Hawthorn Street, just north of downtown San Diego, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Paramedics took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.
No other injuries were reported.

The accident prompted a closure of two lanes on the freeway in the area for about an hour, CHP public-affairs Officer Jesse Matias said.
The pedestrian fatality was the second to occur on a San Diego freeway over a period of less than six hours. Shortly before 12:30 a.m., a car struck and killed a woman on eastbound Interstate 8 near Presidio Park in Mission Valley, the CHP reported.

Late Wednesday morning, yet another pedestrian, described only as male, was fatally injured when a car struck him on state Route 94 near 25th Street in Golden Hill area, according to the Highway Patrol.
