Road, Snow Conditions Force School Closures In San Diego County

Schools in the Julian Union Elementary, Julian Union High, Mountain Empire Unified​ and Spencer Valley school districts​ will be closed.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — Schools in the Julian Union Elementary, Julian Union High, Mountain Empire Unified and Spencer Valley school districts will be closed again Thursday due to road and snow conditions, the San Diego County Office of Education announced.

Schools in the Julian Union Elementary and Julian Union High school districts will also have a late start on Friday, said Stacy Brandt of the Office of Education.

A cold winter storm brought snow to the county's mountains Wednesday. Snowfall totals reached 14 inches in Mount Laguna and 13 inches at Birch Hill in Palomar Mountain, according to the National Weather Service.

"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," Brandt said.
