San Diego Convict Sought After Walking Away From CA Conservation Camp

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man who was convicted on multiple charges last year in San Diego County walked away from a conservation camp in California, authorities said.
Ashiel Bahar, 37, who was incarcerated at the minimum-security camp, was discovered missing at 3 a.m. Tuesday at Owens Valley Conservation Camp in Inyo County, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Staff members searched the camp buildings and grounds, the CDCR said. The CDCR's Office of Correctional Safety, Cal Fire and local law enforcement agencies were assisting in the search.

Bahar, a second strike inmate, was sent to the camp from San Diego County on Nov. 1, 2023, to serve a four-year sentence for first-degree burglary, using the identification of another to obtain personal identifying information, grand theft firearm, grand theft exceeding $950, and evading or attempting to evade a peace officer while driving recklessly.
Bahar was described as 6 feet tall and 247 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He was said to be wearing either gray sweatpants and a gray T-shirt, or orange pants and an orange long-sleeve shirt.

Anyone who sees Bahar was asked to contact either the conservation camp commander at 760-387-2686, any law enforcement agency or 911.
