San Diego Event Seeks Human Milk Donations To Help Medically Fragile Babies

SAN DIEGO, CA — Breastfeeding mothers are invited to donate frozen breast milk during a community milk drive aimed at providing nutrition for premature and medically fragile babies.

Mothers' Milk Bank California will host the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns.

Eligible mothers can begin the screening process to become milk donors, learn about the impact of donated human milk and receive guidance on next steps. Organizers encourage potential donors to complete a pre-screening process before attending to help streamline the donation process.

The event is part of a series of milk drives held across California and Nevada in recognition of National Breastfeeding Month.

Mothers' Milk Bank California said one donor can provide lifesaving nutrition to dozens of premature and medically fragile infants. The nonprofit collects, pasteurizes and distributes donated human milk through partnerships with more than 150 hospitals and health care providers.

Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns is at 3003 Health Center Drive in San Diego.
